That's just a complete misrepresentation of the issue.... but thanks for playing.

Not one person cares if a woman transitioning to a man wants to go out for a man's sport. The only issue is one of a man transitioning to a woman who wants to participate in women's sports... SPECIFICALLY because women's sports were set aside, both in terms of creation (and most importantly to the public, funding) to not discriminate against women, as most all sports do. A man transitioning to a woman has a genetic advantage to other women. The swimmer is a perfect example. He was mediocre at best as a man and she is winning as a woman.... despite slower speeds as a woman.

This thwarts the entire purpose of the set-asides, which INCLUDE college scholarships.

The reason there may only be one is because of the rules. If all you had to do to compete as a woman is 'identify' as one, there would likely be hundreds if not thousands of (as an example) male golfers identifying as women to get a college scholarship that they can't get as a man. But since the rules don't currently allow that, you're right that it isn't CURRENTLY a problem....

That said, it is ignorant to not notice the move nationally to recognize 'gender identity', 'non-binary' and other definitions as protected classes.... and while many are sympathetic to the issue, these rules that 'men' compete in men's sports and women in women's are not new... they are simply now being more codified BECAUSE of the obvious challenges being raised by 'the left'. Without those challenges, changes to the rules are not necessary. You complain about the proposed changes and ignore the cause.

As to the Utah Governor... women/girls are most often already able to try out for many men's sports.... If they are discriminated against, people get in trouble. If they simply aren't good enough to play, welcome to sports. The governor seems worried about suicide rates... but by your own admission, there is only one such person. Maybe we get them some therapy and leave the rules alone?? Maybe they learn like THOUSANDS of women do every day that finishing 10th in a 'men's' race as a 'woman' is better than finishing first in a woman's race with an unfair and demonstrable genetic advantage over them?? How is that meaningfully different from a man taking steroids and winning? Its an unfair advantage and we do all we can to prevent it.

Quote:Yet the party of small government is advocating for laws the define where one must compete? How does that make sense? Why not let the governing sport bodies decide how they best manage the athletes who compete in their organization?

Because discrimination is a federal issue.... and billions of federal dollars are at issue. I don't remember your specific position, but how is this different from letting (as an example) HRS or HISD or Parks and Rec or the City of Houston define which bathroom someone should use?

Quote:It’s a nice attempt to spin the instigators away from the legislators who have created a bogey man out of relatively infrequent issues that are best managed by the sport’s governing body.

Did you also notice that the NCAA actually punted this issue to the conferences?? Again, while they regulate 'sports', they don't regulate the scholarships nor Title IX nor any of the 'diversity' components of federal aid. You act as if the NCAA is the NBA and its just a business. It's HIGHLY tied in to federal discrimination issues.
