Quote: In a follow-up email to HuffPost, a spokesperson for Blackburn said her definition of a woman is “Two X chromosomes.”

The spokesperson did not respond to questions about whether Blackburn considers women born with only one X chromosome to be women, or if she considers men born with two X chromosomes to be women...

“Someone who can give birth to a child, a mother, is a woman,” he said. “Someone who has a uterus is a woman. It doesn’t seem that complicated to me.”
So if a woman has her uterus removed by a hysterectomy, is she still a woman?

“Yeah. Well, I don’t know, would they?” he asked. (Yes.)

Asked again later if he would consider a woman to still be a woman if she lost her reproductive organs to cancer, Hawley said: “I mean, a woman has a ******, right?”

Cruz, when asked, immediately answered that a woman is “an adult female human.”

He denied that he had recently looked it up in a dictionary.

“I just happen to speak English,” Cruz said, adding: “A Homo sapien with two X chromosomes.”

People commonly cannot state the intuitively obvious as a precise definition, because it has never been necessary for them to verbalize it.

I think it's very reasonable for this question to be a lot harder to answer than it seems on the surface - just look at how quickly Hawley was tripped up.

Yet for some reason, it was considered a major issue by Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee and conservative posters here that Jackson responded that she wasn't a biologist so she couldn't offer a definition. I wish your reasonable response would have been made to those here who felt Jackson was unreasonable when she didn't offer a definition.

I will note that, I don't think this question is as intuitive as you and others might think. I think it's actually one that seems rather simple on the surface but is a lot more complex. I mean, look at Cruz reciting the formal definition - an adult female human. That really doesn't help at all in how to identify someone as a man or woman with respect to the law.
