While those who want him dead may well be a tiny minority, I think lots of people in the upper reaches of the Biden campaign and the DNC would not have minded at all a lengthy hospitalization, coming at this point in the campaign. A campaigning Trump is still a dangerous Trump, and one in the hospital not so much.

From the POV of the presidential race, I'd rather have him on the campaign trail (and specifically attending the next two debates) than have him hospitalized.
