No reason for college football to change the playoff process so other teams can compete.
Well, there are a boat load of the participation trophy generation out there. They need to learn if you want it then earn it. Nothing is free and there are no guarantees of success. And I consider those minor lessons compared to something more serious, like actual combat, where finishing second gets you a Purple Heart for participation.

No it wasn't. The intent of the bowls was strictly commercial. Bring in tourist dollars for the local economy. The whole concept was never seen as anything but a vacation opportunity. The Rose Bowl being the first had these motives and the hopes of matching two of the best teams in the nation. That was later changed to PAC vs Big 10.
