I know that this round of clucking all started with a column about dumping the CCGs and going to 8 teams, but they really are two separate issues.

Agreed, the SEC isn't giving up their championship game.

That doesn't mean a firm opposition to 8 teams. IIRC, Slive was advocating for 8 teams back before the CFP even started up.
