You are ignoring the Presidents and Chancellors of the SEC, especially the flagships which counting Vandy make up 12 of the 14 voters. They are the ones who OK a new member. They do not see their schools as the same as an open access "State" school. They will hold the line on Oklahoma State. Snobbery in higher education should not be underestimated. Being south of the Mason-Dixon line does not change that.

As several of us have pointed out, Oklahoma St. is not UL-Monroe or Troy State. What you are saying about Oklahoma St. is simply wrong. The SEC may be snobby, but not to their peers. In ARWU, Oklahoma St. is ranked the same as Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi St. and Arkansas and ahead of Ole Miss. It isn't rated in the 400 schools in the World University rankings, but neither are 8 of the 14 SEC schools.

Look at the rising standards of admission across the SEC, look at the rapid growth in research. Southern schools are rising very fast. Presidents like the U of not "State U" for expansion.

Oklahoma State is fine as is, just as Kansas State is (they are very similar), but without Oklahoma State's entire value is as Oklahoma's opponent in bedlam. They bring no additional value of their own. Separate them from Oklahoma and they will fall like SMU did in value.
