Women's Hoops Preview: North Carolina

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Before the UNCW women's basketball team takes a break for fall semester exams, the Seahawks will have one final adjudication on the hardwood when they visit Carmichael Arena on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. tilt against the Tar Heels.

Wednesday's game can be heard in Wilmington on 95.9 FM The Breeze or online via the Seahawk Digital Network by going to UNCWSports.com/SDN. In addition, live stats will be available at UNCWStats.com.

UNCW carries a 5-2 record into the matinee on Wednesday after earning its fourth win in the last five games with a 72-54 victory over Fayetteville State on Saturday. Redshirt senior guard Shrita Parker netted a game-high 27 points to anchor three Seahawks in double figures as redshirt junior guard GiGi Smith added 14 points to go with a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds from sophomore forward Paige Powell.

North Carolina, 5-4 on the season, has dropped three consecutive games after suffering an 85-73 setback against Maine on Sunday afternoon inside Carmichael Arena. The Tar Heels were outscored by a 26-14 margin in the second quarter and were never able to recover as the Black Bears earned their first-ever win over UNC.

Wednesday's Starting Five

Series Business – North Carolina has won both previous meetings against the Seahawks, including an 86-60 verdict in last year's encounter at Carmichael Arena.

This Looks Familiar – The Seahawks spent the first week of practice at Carmichael Arena after Hurricane Florence forced UNCW to close for nearly a month.

Family Reunion – Former UNCW letter winner Bett Shelby is a member of Coach Sylvia Hatchell's staff at North Carolina. Shelby played in 11 games for the Seahawks from 2002-04 before transferring to Greensboro College.

Afternoon Delight – Five of the Seahawks' first seven games this season have been afternoon affairs.

Road Warrior – Redshirt senior guard Shrita Parker has averaged 25.3 points per game in the Seahawks' three road contests this year, including a career-high 36 points against N.C. Central on Nov. 20.

Up Next: The Seahawks take a break for fall semester exams before facing another ACC foe on Tuesday, Dec. 18, with a visit to Pittsburgh.
