Actually, the right play in that situation, if no one is guarding you, is to drop it right at your feet with almost no momentum, but so that it stays inside the 3-point line. The scramble to get the ball, even if they quickly scoop for a layup, should end the game.

Heck, if you're being guarded, just throw it to the guy guarding you (maybe near his knees) and let him make a layup. You still win by 1. Why no one has ever done that (that I'm aware of) is beyond me.
