Also watch and tell me which of those 20+ yard pass plays were zone coverage.

You dont have to listen to me, listen to Bobby Wilder explain what happened.

The facts: wilder said based on film they knew which formations to get in that VT would play man against.

VT never wavers from that plan

Wilder/Scott believed the only chance they had was throwing outside vs man coverage

ODU got in those formations

VT stayed in man coverage vs those formations.

ODU bombed away with 2 WRs with 18/350+ yards and another WR with an almost 40 yard gain

Saturday the adjustments for the most part didn't work for Tech. Sorry that you didn't notice the difference between Tech rushing as few as 3 or as many as 6 during the game. There are lots of defensive variations out there other than just a straight man or a single kind of zone. It's easy to second guess when something didn't work.

Duhart and Fulgham caught 18 passes between them for 330 yards (18.33 avg. per catch). Five other players caught 12 additional passes for 165 yards (13.75 avg. per catch). On top of that Cox ran for another 130 yards on them on 20 carries (6.5 avg. per carry). They had to defend the entire field. As long as Larussa had enough time to spot the open man and get the pass off - which was generally pretty quick - they were screwed because most of our receivers were simply bigger, better, and more experienced than the Tech secondary defenders ... and most importantly, Larussa was on target with his passes.

I don't know if this will help assess just a horrible performance by VT defense, but our LB corps could not bring down their Mack Truck of an RB named Jeremy Cox. He is listed as 6.0' and 235 lbs. That guy ran/bulldozed his way through our D-Line and would routinely drag our LBs across the field for a critical 1st Down.

When we loaded the box to stop the run, ODU's backup QB, yes you read that right, their backup QB, made pass after pass to their tall WRs who seemed to be at least 2-3" taller than our DBs. The two primary WRs who did the most damage are both listed as 6'3" in height. They basically caught everything that came their way. In a word, it was a disaster of a game.

Go Hokies!

Ive watched the game 4 times now. Cox ahad 16 carries for 68 yards befor the last drive.

If you were a P5 team playing ODU, how would you try to defend them? What if your P5 team had weak corners and almost the only time ODU is moving the ball is fad routes vs man?
