Also, Rice has a similar 2-1 worked out with LSU as we do with Texas. Pretty sure any C-USA team would take both of those deals.
With regard to games on campus, UH obviously draws well but so do schools like Baylor. The Baylor game (with the now infamous MOB show and Briles appearance) was probably 60% Rice, 40% Baylor.
Well, 6 times closer is more accurate, but fair enough. And accurate statement about the Texas and LSU deals. We've played some out-of-state P5's at the Alamodome in 2-for-1 deals in our first few years, which drew well, but not as well as Texas or LSU would.
And like I said, Texas would likely never agree to play in the Alamodome against their little sister school. Miner supporters would be able to say whether Texas has ever played in El Paso because I don't know. Rice is a more reputable football program than we are because of its academics and rich history, are a former conference member with UT, and NRG Stadium is bigger and better than the Alamodome, and an NFL facility to boot.
Texas played at UTEP give or take a decade ago. Attendance was very good.
