Childers was a redshirt freshman, not true freshman. The true freshman QB at WMU outplayed Childers and he had less starts than Childers when we played them. Generally, you would think a QB would get better over the course of the season but Childers got worse. Last 3 games were terrible.

2017 season:
Childers QB Rating 124.5 Adj QBR 41.1
Goddard QB Rating 97.3 Adj QBR 18.8

So overall they both were bad, although one was an actual true freshman. I watched all the NIU games and Childers led a pretty inefficient offense and did not seem to get better with more experience. I hope a switch flips for him this year, he will be playing much tougher competition this season.
