With so many more colleges throwing major resources at their college baseball programs in the past 10 years, with the huge difference in funds the big schools have from their football programs, with the better conferences most of our competitors are in, and with the 20-1 difference in attendance at these schools, the ONLY way we will be able to turn around the baseball program is to hire a head coach that will differentiate us from the others, such as Berkman.

Yes, many of the candidates mentioned could provide good coaching and improve players, but only someone like Berkman could recruit a nucleus of 3 or 4 superstars necessary to get a team into the top 10. And I hate to admit this, but most of our fanbase are fair weather fans, and will only go back to the ballpark on a regular basis if we are in the top 10.
