Charlie has never wanted to be the center of attention. He prefers to work behind the scenes. I have not seen him take credit nor boost about anything through the years. When he talks he uses words like “we” not “I”. I have found Charlie to be refreshingly open and honest when I have spent time with him. He is also a dedicated family man too.

According to those who know Charlie best he can be stubborn. Once he has made up his mind, he doesn’t change it. He rewards loyalty and never forgets those who were not.

Bourne is the consummate politician. He can answer a question intelligently without really saying anything. Charlie is more of a tell it like it is kind of guy. This is why I believe Charlie leaves the question an answer stuff to Jeff.

If you had dinner with Charlie, you would like him. I may not agree with every decision he makes but I do respect him as a person and as the VP of Finance at JMU. He does his job well and yes, his will big shoes to fill once he is gone.
