I'm not sure recruiting locally or nationally matters too much right now. I mean, the three guys who graduated last year who stayed four years were: Ako (Washington DC), Rob (Pennsylvania), and Tim (California). I actually think Rice's reputation in Houston, as a private school in an uber-wealthy neighborhood (that inside the hedges mentality), makes us less attractive to recruits in Texas than outside. I'm sure plenty will disagree, though.

I see what you mean, but I think Texas players just look at us as small-time more than it having anything to do with composition of our neighborhood.

IMO (and maybe some will disagree, but I've lived in both), Highland Park and Uptown Dallas (SMU) feels a lot more snooty and upscale than the Med Center/Museum District/West University Place. SMU is also significantly more white than Rice (70-75% white) whereas Rice is a majority minority campus.
