i believe that if UMass is invited they would make the effort and would be able to reach greater levels because of the money increase from being in a better conference. They also have some history in basketball and we finally get a actual rival in football and we get another rival basketball. i mean Memphis was complete garbage at football coming into the conference and now look at them!
im not saying umass will reach that level. But anything is possible. i say we let them in! its getting lonely in New England....

Yes, but we had basketball and we were already investing in ourselves before the invite, not after. We also own our market and area. In their present state, what do they bring

Granted, UConn is on a island.

I suppose in the present state UMass doesn't bring much from a competitive perspective. Granted we are a bit more competitive than we were a few years ago. While historical performance is not necessarily indicative of future results, I think UMass has shown it is possible to support reasonably high level competition (and we did this at the same time UCONN and BC were also successful, so its not like the resources are too limited to support three programs in New England). We do bring two rivalries to help stability and added academic separation from the rest of the G4 or G5 whatever you want to call it. Otherwise it's just a potential market otherwise untapped by the AAC.
