The article doesn't actually say that. It says the board of regents has granted them sufficient time to pursue TRACS accreditation. The TRACS web site doesn't list them as a candidate yet.

Even worse, it sound like their state authorization is dependent on gaining some type of accreditation as well. States vary by how they authorize higher ed institutions and what they require of them.
It is Louisiana, so the standards aren't exactly high at the state level.

Not necessarily. State education bureaucracies often treat private school’s extremely harshly in many states.
