He's been making that claim for years and there are no links because it is all false. D2 has only 30 schools with enrollment over 7,500 and not all of them have football.

I’ve heard the Division II VP speak regarding Div II affairs. She has never mentioned any concern that large blocs of schools are going to move to Div I. I am not discounting the possibility, but so far, it’s only been isolated cases of schools moving to Div I (or Div III or NAIA).

It is true that most schools in Div II are smaller private schools, since they can’t offer tons of full scholarships, but need to offer some to keep up with nearby public schools who may not need to offer athletics scholarships. The Div II philosophy is one that some larger schools, private and public embrace.

Some of the current issues facing Div II include implementation of the new constitution, continued school closures and mergers, and possible Supreme Court decisions regarding “pay for play.” If the Supreme Court rules in favor of pay for play, this will hurt most Div II schools, but going to Div I is NOT a solution for over 99% of Div II schools.
