The community issue could begin and end with JK and some of the top administrators within the athletic department. They used to have a freshman orientation for all the student-athletes in August when they matriculated to campus and had a number of exercises to build friendships among those folks. I assume they still do that to some extent, but sometimes you get the sense that it's every sport, coach and athlete for themselves, and I almost feel other coaches and athletes are more jealous than happy for other teams and athletes when they do experience success. Maybe it's because they're worried about their budget and resources being usurped by the other Rice sports?
