RE: City trying to Sell Lamberts Point GC for water treatment plant
Here is what Theresa Whibley (city council member, rep for Ward 2) had to say about the sale of Lambert's Point;

Quote:This project is to help the water table of Tidewater by injecting clean, reclaimed waste water into ground which will stem our subsistence and clean the Elizabeth River. It is a pilot program which will be studied until 2023.

The City is paid 15 million for the right to study this project, meanwhile the golf course will be open. If project is successful, city will receive second 15 million, (total 30 million) and course will be closed, but city will retain access to easement around water to allow for kayaking, etc and the potential extension of Elizabeth River Trail. Land at practice area and pro shop is also maintained by City. City was to incur great upcoming expenses for this area, as it is sloughing into river.

I was not in favor of losing green space and a golf course initially, but now that Sewell's Point course is now open to Norfolk residents and we will maintain water access, I supported this.
