Honestly, I would be far more excited to watch ODU play an ACC or Big 10 team on the road than watch a home game against a MEAC or MAAC team. Not only would the experience forge toughness, it would significantly raise our profile if we began to win some of those games. Teams like Gonzaga didn't become a power overnight.

Oh...and if the only way we're going to get into the NCAA tournament is by winning the conference, then any P5 road losses won't hurt us anyway.

I totally agree. You are identified by the teams that you play against. Playing against power conference teams instead of MEAC teams raises your profile, which raising your recruiting possibilities, and brings in even more potential quality opponents. You will never become a higher profile program without playing the teams you hope to be associated with.

It is also good for experience as has been mentioned before. There is no downside to going out and playing those teams aside from an ego hit to admins who don't think it looks good to take 2 for 1 games or road only game. I will tell you doesn't look good. Winning 25 games and not even being on the radar of the bubble, and not even being attractive enough for the NIT.
