This article proves that FBS is on the lips of some NDSU backers and media. NDSU was opposed to giving UND football a game for years but suddenly was in favor of it? McFeely has written about that too, but hasn’t arrived at the mystery yet. UND is needed by NDSU football now, as well as some of UND’s buddies.

You've always misread the tea leaves a bit on this issue. The whole article reads like and explanation of why they believe FCS is the "sweetspot" for them. The last paragraph honestly explains their ultimate wet dream.

Bresciani and Larsen have said NDSU will likely wait and see what the changes on the NCAA landscape over the next few years bring before making any decisions. Some have speculated the Power Five conferences (Big Ten, Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference, etc.) will split from the rest of college sports, leaving mid-majors from Group of Five to FCS schools lumped together.
