My point was that the Mountain West wants to be seen as a co-equal with the American (the highest outaide the power 5 conferences). After the last round of realingment they were, but since I feel the American is nudging up. If BYU football joins the American, then the Mountain West is definitely behind. Preventing that should be seen as a high priority foor the Mountain West and giving BYU a stable home for non-revenue sports does that. All sports are better of course, but still essential to make sure they do not join the American all spoets (which they might if forced to put football somewhere)
