Gonzaga is following in the footsteps of UNLV. Remember when the Big West was headlined by UNLV and NMSU nipped at their heels every now and then? Although, UNLV did have a chance at the WAC in the late 70’s/early 80’s, but didn’t fulfill their commitment in time. Finally, they joined the WAC and parlayed that into MWC membership. This absolutely makes sense for Gonzaga.

I wish people would stop bringing up Grand Canyon. They are playing well right now because they have a great coach. Nothing about their institutional make-up supports an invitation from the MWC.

Having a presence in Texas was beneficial to the MWC so it makes sense they’d like to establish an outpost or two. Read the articles from late 2015; the majority just wasn’t ready to pull the trigger, but there was considerable interest.
