Yes, many drew too many parallels with LSU - Alabama 2011 (the conference angle) and not Alabama - Clemson the last two years (deep south angle).
But LSU vs Alabama wasn't a good comparison, because LSU vs Alabama was a rematch while Alabama vs Georgia wasn't, which made the game much more similar to Alabama vs Clemson, two deep south teams playing.
Good points both. I think the rematch thing is a bid deal. I do think it's worth noting that OU/UGA drew better (6th all-time) - in an earlier time slot - than Clemson/Bama (not top 10). It included teams from 2 regions (even if neighboring regions).
They gotta do something about the timing of that second CFP game. IIRC, Alabama vs Clemson didn't start until after 9 PM eastern time, and they kicked it off when OU/UGA was still going on, and nobody was going to turn away from that game at that time.
I ended up only watching the first half because I was just too bushed from a long day.
I think the holdup there is the Rose Bowl. With the parade and all the tradition, it has its' set early afternoon start time.
I think its TV doing it. The Rose Bowl was a night game when it was the BCS title game. The parade gets over in plenty of time to get to the game even with all the traffic. There's tens of thousands of people in pre-game parties around the stadium.
