I can see an argument for the play in game being better than a regular place. The play in game is usually a 12 seed, with our conference we would usually be 12+. Also if you win the play-in game (which is much more likely beating another 12 instead of trying to beat a 4 or better) it still counts as a tournament win, and if you win you get a game under your belt ready to take on the higher seed.

Conference/Team gets the tournament money for the win too.
