Winning puts butts in the seats, regardless of the conference.

And sports viewership and attendance is taking a hit across the board. Young people just aren't as interested in spending that amount of time on going to games.

Blah blah blah excuse excuse excuse. There are tons of schools ODU's size that draw a lot more students than ODU, have much more energized crowds than ODU, etc. This has not always been the case. Lots of convenient excuses being floated by our admin and eaten up by some of you. They are doing a bad job. If you hear what some off the folks in the AD say off the record, even they agree that whats happening in The Ted is unacceptable.

If we averaged our capacity last year (if we sold out every game) we would have been ranked 50th in attendance. Last year we were 81st. Attendance isn't the issue, the issue is getting the atmosphere back to what it was. Usually winning helps but damn there are some low energy games that just make me sad. There was one game JJ rightfully called out the fans on it. We need to find a way to bring the energy back and I'm not sure what the answer is. I feel like it starts with the students.
Attendance is a problem. Reference Harry's article tonight. Lowest attendance since the 5-25 season this year and down nearly 30% from pre- 5-25 season when we were regularly averaging over 7k. Season tickets are less than half of what they were in the heyday and down 10% from last season, and students don't show up. Beyond all of that, butts in seats is even worse. This is looking like a managed decline at this point since there is no urgency to fix the issue.

It is all marketing. There is no Blaine Taylor, no Alex Loughton, no Valdas, no Gerald Lee, no Frank the Tank, and no Bazemore. There isn't even a Trey Freeman. We have a bunch of great kids and a coach that is strictly business. This is not a cheap shot on JJ... I don't think our coach has to be a local celebrity... just an added value BT gave to help with the marketing. Marketing needs to put a face on this team. I don't care if it is BJ or Caver, but they need to make the public feel a personal investment to come see a hometown hero. When people know who is on the team and who to watch, they are more likely to attend and invest in the season. It could all start with simply opening up and doing some kind of feel good story with Bruce Rader of how Caver overcame adversity when he was 12 years old and blah blah blah to hold and show in the news after the highlights of a game where he stepped up and had a big game.
