On the recruiting trail, especially in Houston, Svoboda shouldn’t have any trouble getting into high schools to get players for Rice.

Svoboda served as the President of the Greater Houston Coaches Association this past year and said he knows about 95 percent of the coaches by name and will help him in this process.

“It’s a special student athlete that goes to Rice,” Svoboda said. “It’s a challenge but it’s a good challenge. The quality of degree and everything that goes with it, is what is really making it exciting and attractive for me. Anytime you’re promoting a product you want to believe in it.”
