I like the idea of combining option offense with run and shoot - play action to the nth degree. Have to have a couple of dual purpose qbs of course, if you want to survive the season. I think we have a couple that would do the job.

Didn't I send you some videos of Hawaii at one time? They could run it 50 times a game or throw it 50 times a game, all out of the same offense. Whatever they needed to do.

And I still think the big deal is the number of dummy holders so they can get in all those reps. With 135 or so, you can be running 6 11-on-11s simultaneously, 3 offense and 3 defense, and even more if you breakout into smaller groups. And they typically have 2-3 junior officers on staff who plays there, not exactly sure how they do that with staff size limits, so they have folks to supervise all those different drills going simultaneously. If you are going to emphasize execution, then reps is the key. The more intensely you practice, the more reps you get and the faster you get better and eliminate bad plays.

The Air Raid guys do it differently, by running through practice at max speed. When they run routes on air, they have 5 QBs throwing to 5 receivers on each rep.

Chip I know we used to talk about how fantastic that Hawaii offense was when they lined up a slot back outside each of the tackles, had a fullback, had motion, then ran a run pass option off of that formation. Remember the Hawaii teams had a bowl game each year against the mainland college all-stars, and used to beat them regularly.

I think Paul Johnson of Georgia Tech was the OC on that team, before he went to Navy. He went to pure traditional triple option after he left Hawaii, for some reason.
