Delaware, Drexel, Navy, GMU, VCU, Richmond, ODU, JMU, W&M, VMI, UNCG, UNCW, Furman, Wofford, CoC, The Citadel

This would have created CAA football for: Delaware, Richmond, JMU, W&M, VMI, Furman, Wofford, The Citadel

When Richmond pulled out to join A10 the deal collapesed.

The remaining 6 teams looked to join the 10 team American East but that fell one vote short.

So the CAA took Delaware, Hofstra, (who had football at the time), Towson, and Drexel. That gave the CAA 10 overall and 5 football schools. A few years later Northeastern was added to the CAA for the sole reason to get to 6 in football when the CAA finally found a member in the South who would be #12, Ga St. They then dropped football shortly after.

With Northeastern on board. A10 football became CAA football. Richmond could have been blackballed, and even considered joining the Patriot League for football, but ultimately they decided to stay and there was no real outcry to punish Richmond for something that happened a decade prior.

Gotcha, thanks for the info!
