Looks like a nice renovation. The project might have multiple purposes. Although one purpose might be in preparation for a possible move up attempt, the main purpose might be for needed improvements and to keep up with other Lone Star Conference members. The last major renovation at Tarleton State's Memorial Stadium was in 1988-89. The first part of the current project is to replace turf installed in 2004. Tarleton State's current project will increase capacity from 7,000 to 9,000 plus several other nice improvements.
Five of the current Lone Star Conference members have stadiums with capacities ranging from 13,500 to 20,000. Most conference members are either building new stadiums or have had a series of recent facility improvements. West Texas A&M's new stadium is planned to start late this year. Midwestern State, currently using a high school stadium, is exploring the construction of an on campus stadium. Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Angelo State have had several major improvements in recent years. One member, UT-Permian Basin, plays in 19,302 seat Ratliff Stadium of "Friday Night Lights" fame.
