"Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock fired special "incendiary" bullets at a 43,000-barrel fuel tank in what investigators believe was an attempt to cause an explosion, two law enforcement sources told CNN.

Those types of rounds, meant to ignite what they hit, were found inside Paddock's room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and near the fuel tank a short distance away on the grounds of McCarran International Airport, the sources said.

Authorities have previously disclosed that Paddock fired at the tank and struck it with two rifle rounds, when he opened fire on the crowd below from his 32nd floor hotel room on October 1. They had not disclosed that he used incendiary rounds to fire at the tank, which contains jet fuel."

they are really slow rolling the facts on this attack.

This Paddock fella was not just some lonely old whit angry crackpot... he was very sophisticated..

I mentioned it very early in this thread... this Paddock want to blow the tanks up and then shoot people as they ran from the fire. Hell with incendiary rounds could the explosion have killed hundreds? any experst on incendiary rounds and aviation fuel... blast radius?

Doubtful it would have been an explosion. Interested in hearing three things:

A. which type of aviation fuel it was, Jet fuel or Av-gas. Jet fuel is for all intents and purposes kerosene thus the explosion potential is negligible Av-gas is more like high octane gasoline and would be easier, but still would require everything to be just right to explode.

B. How much fuel was in the tank. The fuel itself doesn't explode or even burn...it's the vapors. You can actually put a fire out with gasoline if you dump a large amount in a rapid manner on the fire because it cuts off the oxygen needed to sustain combustion.

C. Where he was aiming on the tank.
Would you expect Paddock to know this? If he did or didn't I'm not sure it matter regarding his apparent intent.

Just curious as to where you're headed with these thoughts.

He did own two airplanes.

For Fire Fighting purposes the Fuel Tank has to be visably labeled identifying its contents
