Believe it or not, those "trophies" mean something.

Despite having a trophy, Penn State-Minnesota isn't a rivalry. The same can be said about Penn State-Michigan State for the most part. That's why a list like that isn't great and it doesn't show how many times they've played.

That list isn't meant as the be all, end all, rather a place to start with some examples. BR has a pretty good list of inter-conference rivalries.

Several teams have pretty good rivalries with Notre Dame like Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue. One of the unfortunate side effects of the CFP and realignment is that many of those games are only played every few years.
