New Dean of Engineering walked into a crap show and is doing everything she can to improve the situation. Already has gotten additional funds, new goodies for the school and has made a bunch of connections with industry.

She has started an Engineering Ambassador program (I'm part of it) to help recruit new students, provide Q&A / show and tell sessions and other stuff. I HEARD a rumor that there has been or will be some clearing out of poor performers. No idea how that works with the state though.

Another example of how FECES U has passed us. Also another example of ODU admitting students that could not make it through the rigors of an engineering course of study. We catered to diversity instead of focusing on attracting the best and brightest. Plus we didn't address or pursue new cross discipline engineering fields of studies and we were left behind with irrelevant professors that brought no research funding and unable to teach what was needed. We were a very strong engineering program that became very arrogant as the world passed us by. Now we are playing catchup.

Idk, I graduated in 2011 from the engineering school and there were some really smart students in my classes. To be honest I was probably at the bottom half as far as GPA. But I busted my ass to graduate and had no problem getting a job and pretty much everyone I know has a good job. I find it hard to think that we have a bad engineering program in 5-6 years.

But I do think that we let in kids that don't have a chance of graduating. The diversity thing is fine but should never come before academic excellence. And I personally think the diversity thing is really over played. When is the last time you heard an ODU administrator promote academic excellence.
