RE: ODU Enrollment decline and Academics
The strive for diversity over excellence is a path for destruction.
Old Dominion has come so far but seems intent on going backwards in the name of diversity.
We should seek the best students from any and all backgrounds as long as they are the best students.
If we sacrifice academic ability for the goal of diversity - we are doomed as an institution.
That is the role of Community Colleges. Border line students prepare themselves in a CC for the rigors of a 4 year institution.
Statistics show that if diversity is the goal over academic prowess then alumni donations and ODAF will cease to exist as we know it.
UVA / VT / JMU don't seemed to be concerned about diversity - they want top tier students - period. They may state fake goals for diversity but they want the best students regardless of diversity.
I am very concerned for the future and fear all of our growth and advancement is in jeopardy.
I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in Old Dominion and it has me wondering why I give so much of my time and resources when the goals of the administration seem to be so contrary to logic and proven paths of success.
