SDSU would be stupid to buy the Q from the City. That place needs to be demoed and then they would have to build a new stadium. They would need a lot more money to do this than to pony up some cash as part of an agreement with a developer.

The denial of the special election by the SD City Council was for the Convention Center Expansion (which is far more valuable to the City than this FSI development) thus means no special election ballot for the FSI deal to be on. The Council is voting on the FSI development on Monday and theoretically can still vote to accept the deal.

EDIT: This means SD will see the FSI initiative on the Nov 2018 ballot...next to any other competing development initiatives if the City decides to not go the Request For Proposal (RFP) process and open development up to multiple folks.

Side note: This significantly increases the chances of Sac landing one of the MLS bids this fall.

Sounds great! City of SD will just decide to accept FSI's proposal, FSI gets the land for cheap and starts building market-rate housing and retail (it's main/only goal), then somehow doesn't land the MLS team (wink wink), and says "well heck, why spend all that money on a stadium when we didn't get the MLS team?? We'll just build more market-rate housing and retail where the stadium would've gone".

FAIL

Really hope SDSU boosters are doing all they can to kill FSI CondoCity. Or at the very least, make sure that a guarantee is worked into the deal that forces the stadium to be built regardless if an MLS franchise is awarded.

Wikipedia, with no citation mind you, says $90M in 2006 to completely rebuilt Stanford Stadium.

Question: how in the ever-loving h___ does Cal then spend $321M just to renovate (not rebuild) Memorial Stadium, plus another $153M on the HPC ??????????????? 04-jawdrop

Because Cal was a retrofit.
And Stanford has alum/donor John Arrillaga who handles EVERYTHING. He design-builds all their athletics facilities down to only working with Hoover Assoc. as architect of record and Vance Brown as the general contractor as they're both less than two miles from campus.
