As long as USM goes West, I don't see an imbalance. UTEP is a solid pillar in the West, especially in basketball. North Texas is spending. West is fine. The East programs are the ones complaining of the financial squeeze.

^^THIS!! Well stated. LA Tech, USM, UNT, UTEP and Rice are all solid athletic programs. Not perfect, but solid programs. And now UTSA appears to be making positive strides as a football program in the west also.

It's the EAST that is unstable. Per this article, ODU and Charlotte seem to be choking on the higher travel expenses and the overall cost of doing business at the FBS level. We all know that FAU and FIU were just bad ads by CUSA, and both seem to be stuck forever in commuter school hell, desperate for more fans. And then there's UAB (Probably ends up in west CUSA, but geographically they are in the east). How many NCAA schools in the last 70 years have voluntarily dropped football for 2 full seasons? Answer: Not many. We all know what happened at UAB. But right or wrong, UAB has an unstable football history, and will likely continue to struggle with too many losing seasons and mostly low football attendance.

That's a lot of baggage that CUSA needs to get worked out if it truly expects to thrive in the future.

I;m still waiting on anyone to tell me how Rice is a "solid athletic program"?
