Fact is, some of the "new" FBS schools that recently transitioned from FCS (e.g., ODU) seem be the ones complaining the most and struggling the most with athletic expenses. What did they really expect? Were the newbies expecting some kind of big payday once they stated playing FBS football? 01-wingedeagle

Welcome to "big boy" football. It requires a lot work, a lot of patience and a whole lot of money. 04-cheers

One final thought: It's never a good idea to get your financial advice from a sports writer who works for a small town, local newspaper. Most sports writers can't add 2 + 2. And this particular sports writer has no real answers other than just resigning teams to a bus league, because that's all he knows. But remember, he's small-minded and he doesn't know anything about running an FBS athletic program.

It actually has very little to do with the schools travel expenses for us ODU fans. At the time ODU jumped up it had to make a move or be left behind. CUSA has been good to us and we have been good to CUSA. Competing for the basketball and football titles each year since moving up and no where near the bottom in any sport. That being said ODU fans see schools that are closer that have a chance to develop rivalries and have fans from both sides attend the games. Fans from ODU and NT, UTEP, Rice, UTSA, FAU and FIU are never going to be able to attend away games let alone be rivals. Geographic realignment is going to happen and the people complaining are the ones who don't want it to happen because they will be lumped into a conference with schools they think they are better than. News flash you are not! Also you are nuts if you think the current CUSA is thriving and in a good place. Something will happen and I'm glad I'm on the east side of things.

What are you talking about? In 2015 ODU had a losing record and finished second to last in the east. In 2014 ODU finished 5th in the East

Either you are Sunbelt fan posing as an ODU fan or you're just oblivious

Let the record show that in 2015 @ 5-7 (our worst season ever) we finished as 1 of 6 teams with a 3-5 conference record which was good for a 3 way tie for fourth in east and 6th overall. And in 2014 (a transition year) we were 6-6 in a 3 way tie for 3rd in the east 6th overall aaaaand we beat La Tech.

Lol, please no more comments from clueless fans.

Straight from CUSA:

3-5 with head to head losses to FIU and FAU per CUSA tiebreaker rules
1. Highest regular season winning percentage based on overall Conference USA play.
2. If tied, head to head between tied teams.
3. If still tied, highest winning percentage within division.

Those rules are used to determine divisional winners not to determine who's 4th place and who's 6th or more to the point not used to support weak internet arguments.

See? The heading says "determine a tie for divisional champs" not "to put ODU fans in thier place".

But back to the point we had one season where we were one game below .500 in conference and overall and were squarely in the middle of the pack.
