You use Cal incorrectly. It's always UC. Only Berkeley gets referred to a Cal. I suggest learn your terms. We don't care where you learned the incorrect usage. Stop with it, use the correct terms. "UC" everywhere. So UC Davis, UC Irvine, etc.

CSUN and CSUB are examples of Cal State being put in front. Fullerton is almost universally known as Cal State Fullerton. I think that goes back to distinguishing it from Fresno from the PCAA/Big West days; otherwise we'd have had two CSUF abbreviated schools. So it was CSF and Fresno St. (note for Fresno I think it is also wanting to be associated with older schools in San Jose and San Diego).

Note, San Jose State, San Francisco State, San Diego State, Sonoma State, and Humboldt State do not have California in their names. These are some of the oldest schools, and predate the CSU system. All newer schools have the CSU prefix.You never ever, say Cal State San Diego for example. For grads of these schools them be fighting words.

During the football years in the Big West, they always called it Fullerton State Vs Fresno State to make it fair. It slips off the tongue better than trying to say Cal. State-Fullerton. All the schools at the time went that way when playing football. I think the football teams were branded as City name and state during that time period. I heard them called it Northridge State Vs Sacramento State for the football games. Hayward State was called that as well back in the 1980s until the merger when it is now called Cal. State-East Bay. I watched a lot of college football including Big West football on tv. Maybe the announcers on tv were way too lazy to say it the way you guys say their name.
