With Buffalo and Akron dropping baseball, the MAC is down to 10 in baseball which is about the minimum amount you wish to see a sport. 10 schools chasing 1 bid.

When I through out the idea of MAC taking advantage of the situation and doing its own expanding, the reaction was mostly negative on the MAC board. I tend to agree since there is no conclusive proof that it will help.

The MVC schools do have baseball which are good. I watched a good Southern Illinois beat Wichita State on tv. The idea I am seeing if the MAC wants to be in the top half of the split in men's basketball? They need to grab some very good basketball teams in their region.

Could the MAC do it by taking in UMKC, UWM, UIC and Cleveland St? Push to 16 full members but keep football at 12?

That would basically nuke the Horizon and create real saturation for the MAC across the Midwest OR it could result in a slew of bad teams in MAC basketball.

More schools would put pressure on Akron and Kent State in basketball in the way of competition. Those 2 schools in particular are happy for what MAC basketball has done for them which includes having the MAC tourney in Cleveland their backyard.

It starts to become a turf thing IMO.
