Do you have (or not have) an accurate estimate of the number of available scholarships to give?

We gave out 3 2017 scholarships to mid-year JUCOs.

Did we have approximately 14 2016 scholarship seniors?

IF so, that means we could have a class of AT LEAST 17 and probably a few more as I doubt we were at 85 last year.

My guess is that we could carry a LOT of available scholarships into Dec. 2017 (maybe as many as 6 - 8?).

CC stated at the signing event last year that they were finally at 85, players who came after signing day filled in holes of players who left or didn't show (Hawkins for example). We had some departures after the season started Thorton was off the team prior to Dec, Robinson left, etc. so there is where your 3 JUCOs fit in. Take the JUCOs off the 12 verbals and we have 9 verbals, we had 14 seniors and also a few who left the team lets say at mid year, so my educated guess is that we available for signing day another 7-8 scholies we could award. We have some depth needs so frankly I hope he doesn't pocket some of these, there are also May 2017 JUCO grads after signing day.

Reid Thompson got his scholie from Wayne State by the way, nice pick up for Wayne St and the kid gets a full ride.

One point of clarification:

If a player attended summer school (e.g., July) or started August pre-season camp, that scholarship would have been utilized for the 2016/17 academic/athletic year even if the kid left the program without playing a down during the 2016 season.

That same scholarship could NOT have been given out again to a mid-year JUCO. That would result in TWO different players having used the same scholarship during the same academic/athletic year.

The typical way a scholarship for mid-year JUCO (or even a high school January enrollee) is if a player did not show up or did not pass the NCAA clearing house. In both cases the LOI is null and void as the player was not or did not meet his obligations.
