The proposed idea was to demolish Carter Hall and have baseball and softball back-to-back also using about half of Carter Field. This was proposed in the 5 to 10 year range.

One of the reasons for the move to main campus was poor attendance at games. The people making these suggestions have not been around UT long enough to understand the realities of softball and baseball attendance. When the baseball field was where the Rec Center is, students could walk out the front door of Carter Hall and be at the field in two minutes. Attendance was usually 150 or less. Softball, which went to the College World Series, might get 75.

Unless it was one of those really nice spring days.

It's an odd game compared to football and basketball, which are almost constant action that takes the attention. Baseball, you're at a park where you sit and talk and bond. 5th/3rd is successful because it recognizes that. It has shade and sun. It has overlooks. It has variety. I think that can be replicated on the cheap. It would be easier if it were integrated into a dorm, where food service/ restrooms.. could be shared for events.
