I think you meant to say hasn’t put too much emphasis on SOS. Last year’s JMU seed snub, EWU missing the other year at 7-4 despite having a brutal SOS, etc.

It’s clear they don’t take SOS seriously at this point. I agree. Schedule cupcakes to better help with seeding. Don’t schedule losses.

I understand why you would feel this way about JMU scheduling but as a season ticket holder, I absolutely hate it. I find winning 77-0 boring and of no entertainment value. The stands empty out at halftime and the players egos become inflated as they come to believe they are far superior to the rest of FCS.

Teams don’t get better playing cupcakes. For this reason, softball and lacrosse at JMU schedule tough out of conference opponents.

The top 4-5 teams in the CAA are usually pretty good but the bottom of league doesn’t offer the same challenge it did ten years ago. Just look at what JMU did to UD in the playoffs last year and the wins against UR, Nova and W&M. There are now plenty of easy wins in conference so the need to schedule one or two out of conference cupcakes is not necessary.

The biggest challenge with scheduling today is finding teams to play us. The good teams don’t want to schedule a potential loss for fear it will hurt their playoff seeding or possibly playoff inclusion.

Typically these games are sandwiched between an FBS game and conference opponents so its a bit of a breather going into conference play. As long as we are FCS the goal should be to win the national championship every year so if we schedule for a higher seed and home games throughout that's fine. This isn't FBS where chances are the regular season is more entertaining than whatever bowl game you end up in. 4-5 tough conference games are all you need to challenge a team and prepare them. Look at the '16 and '17 seasons. Last year the conference was hurt by injuries throughout the league. We played nova with no QB and UNH smoked us when healthy. Other than last year richmond has played us close of late

As far as the fan entertainment, half the stands are empty at halftime regardless of the opponent.
