Rivals is not a good resource. 247sports does composite ratings using their own ratings, as well as ratings from other websites. That's a better resource. And all ratings must be taken with a grain of salt as well, many 2-star guys end up being great players and were just overlooked in high school or blossom in college. And while the elite recruits get tons of eyes on them from lots of different recruiting services, there are many good players who only get looked at once and get a rating based on that. Catch him on a good day or a bad day...

edit: after looking at my old posts, maybe I shouldn't be knocking Rivals. The number of players receiving P5/BCS-AQ offers matches nicely with the rise and fall of Rice recruits receiving 3-stars from Rivals!

Gotcha. Thanks. I don't know what's going on, but we must sign better athletes. These players we have right now are great young men with decent athletic ability, but we need real talent. There aren't words to describe my frustration. I'm sure it's a sentiment shared by many here.
