You might be getting Night's King (book character) and the Night King (show invention) mixed up. The Night's King wasn't a warg, he was a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who got freaky with a wight north of the wall, brought her back to the castle and put the rest of the night's watch under dark magic. About 13 years (?) later some Stark guy came up to defeat him.

I might have used the wrong term, but the NK I meant was the leader of the Wights/Others, not the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch that rebelled in the distant past. I was replying to 72Tiger's comment, but didn't quote him. Fixed that in my original reply now.
