I don' think that the SEC, Big Ten and Pac 12 change their divisions due to the sport being played.

I really have no idea what schools are in what divisions for what sports, and I have looked several times at the standings (but not recently).

No offense, Terry, but the way the schools in the conference choose to align doesn't have to make sense to people outside the conference. Just like ND's refusal to join a conference doesn't have to make sense for anybody besides ND.

They are what they are to preserve rivalries that go back 80-100 years and more. The linchpins of the schedule are UNC, Duke, Virginia and Georgia Tech. They want to stay together and play each other every year. Va Tech is thrown in with them for a combination of two reasons - their relationship with UVa and the desire to try to balance the divisions competitively. The latter reason is largely why Miami is in the Coastal as well. The rest is just filling in the blanks.

Why do UNC and Uva get so much power, despite being lousy at football? Because if you read the countless realignment threads, those two states (and schools) are the plums that both the SEC and Big Ten would like to grab more than any other. You break up that traditional scheduling bloc and you weaken the ties those schools have to the league. The other members in the league aren't willing to risk losing them.

Understood and agreed that the ACC is free to make up any divisional setup they want. No dispute there.

But, from all of these threads and posts, they don't seem to be working and your own members seem to complain often about them.

Plus, ND IS in the conference for the other sports I mention so I have a right to question them as a " non-outsider". :)

So when there's a complaint it's "your members", but otherwise it's "our members". Just pulling your chain.

Whether they are "working" or not is relative. There are a lot of threads because there is no good answer, just like there's no good answer to conference realignment. They might not be "good", but they might be "as good as they're going to get". Which means somebody is always going to be unhappy about it.
