Now that the ACC has long left the "round-robin" scheduling model, FSU playing GT for the purposes of a) satisfying the "I wanna play GT" lust, and b) TV inventory -- it actually can be done.

AND, if FSU wins, its gives the 'Noles a notch in the "SOS" component for the Playoff. If it loses, it doesn't affect the Noles' pursuit of an ACC crown -- which also affects the Playoff.

AND, I highly doubt the average FSU fan is going to "boycott" seeing the Yellow Jackets play in Doak simply because it's not a "conference game".

It would appear to me that if, like many FSU fans have stated on this lovely forum, GT is truly a "draw" to FSU fans, they'll turn out to see a great entertaining game.

Anyone who can think rationally can see why ACC opponents scheduled OOC is a stupid idea for football powers.

1. The ACC is weak. More teams from that confernence doesnt help for now. The credibility isnt there. Notice that everyone was burying FSU's OOC schedule last year as proof the schedule sucked. They werent given any credit for the ACC and those games are largely a no win situation for FSU. You are expected to win and most teams arent quality losses in conference.

2. Money is lost here. The power teams want 7 home games. GT as an OOC game means that Florida State loses that revenue every other year for a home game.

3. Less good OOC matchups. This is why the football schools in the ACC dont want 9 games (which is essentially what GT OOC does). As I said just above you want 7 home games for revenue. Well no good teams are coming just to Doak without a return game. So this essentially leaves FSU with UF and 2 cupcake/average opponents every year.

So say bye to Ole Miss, Alabama etc games OOC. Those are more valuable for both strength of schedule and perception.

4. FSU shouldnt have to pay for the ACC being inept. The OOC is all in FSU's hands. The conference needs to use their inventory right. This is an ACC problem and not a problem FSU needs to compensate for by changing the OOC practices of the school.

Anybody who can think rationally can see why scheduling an OOC game against a league opponent makes sense for some schools. If it doesn't make sense for your school, then just don't do it.

If you think FSU shouldn't schedule Georgia Tech OOC because they would want to play home and home, that's a different reason than just because it's an inherently stupid idea. But, as you point out, that same argument holds for scheduling other good teams as well. If your choice is to schedule Kansas State or Oklahoma State home and home or Georgia tech home and home, why would GT be the stupid choice for your fans?

This is not an ACC problem. It is an FSU problem.
