In response? t appears that you are saying that threats of dismissal make coaches coach better, and a lack of threat lets them coach more poorly. well, that would explain this year's TCU result. Bet Patterson is plenty secure.

i don't see coaches as horses, to be spurred on or whipped into better performances. I think essentially all coaches try to win as many as possible, every year. It is the nature of the people, who go into coaching. I see no reason for Bailiff or Patterson to be exceptions.

Fine, OO. I'm just pointing out the data of how he performed after individual down seasons. Perhaps it would be better to say: "In response to a down season, Patterson went 10-2 and #23 in AP. In 2005, in response to another down season, Patterson went 11-1 and #11AP. Those are pretty good responses to isolated down seasons, no?" The outcries comment came from Rick's post above in describing what he saw happen at TCU after those two down seasons. Also, Patterson's two down seasons cited in the post were records close to .500.

So far in Patterson's record, he seems to have an isolated down season in the midst of seasons with high win totals and AP Final rankings. I agree that essentially all coaches try to win as many as possible, every year. Some seem to be better at making it happen than others.
