I think the hypothetical argument is "would it be better to put him on scholarship this season or lose him to Wagner." If thats the case, and I doubt any of us know if it is or not, then I would argue give him the ship this year. If thats not the case, then I'm happy either way. I simply don't want to lose the kid over a scholarship that we have and may not even use. Better a player in hand, so to speak, than a better one in the bush at this late stage in the recruiting season. He agreed to pay his own way when he had no other D1 offers. Now he does and school is expensive. It would make me reconsider. Either way, I hope he's a Monarch soon.

This is a very solid response to both Justanodufan and Mac (and anyone else) that is questioning me about why I want Fields on scholarship if he is OK with not being on scholarship this season.

Just to be clear, I AM fine with his current agreement, but at the same time I also feel that if a scholarship is still available whenever this seasons recruiting is done then he should receive it. It would not detract from the number of scholarships to use for recruiting next season since he is supposed to be getting one next season and beyond anyway, and it would not hurt recruiting for this season since that was finished. If ODU had one not being used then I don't see any difference in giving it to him for this season so he would have a 4 year scholarship instead of a 3 year scholarship. On merit he has earned it so I don't see why anyone should feel differently.

Other than that regarding the topic of scholarships, the only thing that has not made any sense to me based upon everything that I have read and heard about Fields are a relatively few choice comments that I have recently replied to.
