RE: Conference Realignment
Memphis and Cincy seem to me to be the two most logical choices IF the Big 12 decides to go back to 12. Both help fill in the geographical gap between West Virginia and the rest of the league (good for scheduling those sports where the norm is 2 game weekend trips -- esp. basketball); both are in decent media markets; both bring at least some athletic tradition and a record of moderate success. They have a bit of a basketball rivalry between them dating waaay back, and West Virginia's basketball coach, the inimitable Huggy Bear, moved his somewhat pickled self back home to W.Va. when Cincy canned him a few years back. Cincy and West Virginia have a bit of a football rivalry as well. Also, though I know this will piss off you Big 12 loyalists, neither Memphis nor Cincy is exactly a first rate academic institution, meaning they should be right at home in the Big 12. The B12 took West Virginia after both the SEC and ACC passed with a big emphasis on academic quality, and W.Va. was thrilled to find a top league with standards low enough to take them. Cincy and Memphis are both a big step up from there.
Finally, UCF is just too far out of the geographic footprint to warrant a B12 bid, although Colorado State or even BYU might work.
