RE: Triple Option Question For Georgia Southern & Arkansas State Fans

That's not to say they can't be successful with the TO, but they will struggle to play from behind(something they haven't had to do much at the FCS level) unless they can succeed in recruiting where GT has struggled.
More than anything, Johnson has struggled to find a defensive coordinator. I expected him to have more success than he has had, no doubt, but I don't believe it's the offense's fault ... at least, not in the main.
That said, I am of the minority opinion Georgia Southern will be better served playing to its strength and concentrate on being as good as it can be via the run. Trying to be too multiple can be a bad thing. As in anything, jacks of all trades are usually masters of none. There's a reason that's a cliche.
Some of the message board coaches on this board with far more expertise than me as a fan will disagree, but seems to me even passing teams have issues playing from behind.
Getting away from what you do is usually a recipe for bad things. Trying to recruit for a certain skill set may work but then again, the qualities that we should be looking for in recruiting QBs are kids who can run the option and run it better than anyone else. If they can pass, that's a bonus.
I agree entirely with you, if you're going to be a triple option team, commit to it entirely, but that's because of my original point, you're just not going to be able to consistently find QB/WR who can run that offense AND be counted on to air it out against FBS secondaries in the games that are starting to get away from you. Just be as good as you can at running your offense and be okay with it that some games are just going to get to the point that your offense won't be able to catch up, if you run the TO well enough, that won't happen too often.
